Canopies Awnings
How do Stationary Canopies mitigate Urban Heat Island Effects (UHI)?
Rising urban development influenced by rising populations continue to put stress of heat islands in urban and developed settings. Urban Heat Islands occur when sunlight energy get absorbed by rooftops, pavements, structures and other open surfaces and then get remitted back into the atmosphere as heat energy into the surrounding air. Downtown and city urban areas usually have densely built building clusters with have limited spacing in between causing more heat to be released. This accumulation of heat energy creates outdoor city temperatures to be up to 8 degrees hotter than rural areas. Shade netting, shade structures, fabric structures, shade canopies may have a direct benefit at reducing UHI of cities due to their innovative net coverings on top of structures. Shade netting is made from HDPE UV stabilized polyethylene which is permeable and thus allows hot air to escape reducing temperatures underneath by as high as 15
